FITPHX BASKETBALL CAMP
Come join Olympic Gold Medalist Misty Hyman, Mayor Stanton, Former Phoenix Suns Steven Hunter, Councilman Valenzuela, Super Bowl Champ Seth Joyner and other community leaders at this wonderful FREE event. Come and enjoy the fitness fun as we celebrate, physical activity centered around the sport of basketball. All ages are welcome. Let’s get fit together!
Basketball enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels are invited to dribble, pass and shoot alongside former Phoenix Suns’ favorite Steve Hunter and other professional athletes at the free FitPHX Basketball Camp from 12 – 2 p.m. Saturday, March 30, at Grand Canyon University, 3300 W. This event is hosted by the city’s FitPHX team: Mayor Greg Stanton, Councilman Daniel T. Valenzuela and Olympic Gold Medalist Misty Hyman, and Grand Canyon University and Future Stars Global Foundation. Featured star athletes include: Seth Joyner (Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals), John Bronson (Arizona Cardinals) and Nick Lowery (Kansas City Chiefs Hall of Famer).
The two-hour event will include agility activities, basketball skills challenges with professional athletes, and a short game featuring Mayor Stanton, Councilman Valenzuela, Misty Hyman, professional athletes and a few lucky youth participants (to be selected at random).
FitPHX’s goal is to encourage residents to become more active and healthy, and help Phoenix rise to one of the 10 healthiest cities in the nation, focusing on obesity, nutrition education, coronary heart disease, asthma, and encouraging the use of public transportation, bicycling and walking to work. Future Stars Global Foundation is a pending 501(c)(3) created to grant sponsorships and strengthen communities while establishing a solid platform aimed at ensuring the success of youth through sport. In addition, they assist autistic and disabled youth, have launched an anti-bullying/anti-violence campaign and Leadership Academy, all while offering general sustained support for other community non-profits.
